Microsoft raises Surface prices; Laptop 7 and Pro 11 now $500 pricier than their 2024 launches

What happened
Microsoft has quietly increased prices across its current Surface PC lineup on the Microsoft Store, and it has been reported that other retailers are expected to follow. Flagship models now start at roughly $1,500, while several midrange Surface devices have crossed the $1,000 threshold. Windows Central reports that the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 are about $500 more expensive than at their 2024 introductions — consumers are feeling the sting.
The new sticker shock
The changes are sharp and categorical. The Surface Pro 13-inch jumped from a $999 launch price to about $1,499, and the former $799 Surface Pro 12-inch now starts around $1,049. Surface Laptop entry models that launched under $1,000 are now north of four figures, and a maxed-out Surface Laptop 15 with 64GB RAM and 1TB SSD is selling for roughly $3,649. It has been reported that Microsoft raised prices across all SKUs, so bargains are fewer and discounts may become the new normal.
Why Microsoft says — and why it matters
Microsoft told Windows Central that “due to recent increases in memory and component costs, Surface is updating pricing,” blaming ongoing RAM supply pressure. It has been reported that these memory constraints have rippled through the PC industry, squeezing margins and forcing price resets. The result: value comparisons shift fast — a new MacBook Air can be hundreds cheaper than a comparable Surface now, and some top-tier MacBook Pro configs undercut equivalent Surface prices. Will buyers pay up, or will the market push Microsoft back to the drawing board with promotions and refurbished deals? Time — and holiday sales — will tell.
