YouTube raises Premium prices in the US — again

What’s changing
YouTube Premium is getting more expensive in the US. Individual plans have jumped $2 to $15.99 per month (from $13.99). The five-person Family plan is up $4 to $26.99 (previously $22.99). Premium Lite — the cheaper tier that removes most ads but doesn’t include YouTube Music — now costs $8.99, a $1 increase from $7.99.
Rollout and reaction
It has been reported that the new prices are already live for new sign-ups, and existing subscribers are beginning to receive emails about the hike. One notice quoted by outlets says the change will be reflected on users’ June 7, 2026 billing dates; YouTube’s message frames the move as necessary “to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch.” Cue the collective eye-roll. Who hasn’t felt streaming fatigue? Subscription sticker shock is real.
This isn’t happening in a vacuum. The increase follows recent price moves from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube last adjusted US pricing in 2023 (with many international users seeing hikes in late 2024). For people juggling three or four streaming services, the math adds up fast. Creators get a slice, platforms pay for features and licensing — and wallets take the hit.
