Chevin pulls the handbrake on FleetWave software after security scare

The outage

It has been reported that Chevin Fleet Solutions pulled parts of its FleetWave SaaS platform offline after a cybersecurity incident, knocking services in the UK and US into a "major outage." FleetWave — used to manage vehicles, drivers, maintenance and compliance — went dark for some customers after Chevin allegedly took Azure-hosted environments in both regions offline as a precaution. Short version: dashboards disappeared, and day-to-day fleet operations were suddenly hobbled.

What Chevin says (and what it doesn't)

Chevin says it first confirmed disruption on April 3 and is working "around the clock with external cybersecurity specialists" on artifact analysis, threat hunting and additional controls. It has been reported that the company told customers it will only restore environments once they are "confirmed as secure" and expects to update timetables by April 10. But there’s little detail — no clear cause, no word on whether attackers accessed customer data, and, frustratingly, scant public transparency. It has been reported that Chevin did not respond to follow-up questions.

Why the panic? Fleet platforms sit on operational and commercial data; compromise a single tenant and the reverberations can be huge.
