The pop-up you didn't ask for

It has been reported that a giant electronic billboard outside London's Stratford station briefly displayed a Windows network-discovery prompt asking, “Do you want to allow your PC to be discoverable… ?” The image, shared with The Register by a reader, shows the dialog plastered across the ad space — large enough that “Network 3” and the fact a PC was involved became public knowledge in an instant. Cringe-worthy? Absolutely. Unusually theatrical? You bet.

Digital signage, meet Windows quirks

Running digital signage on Windows isn't unusual. But when the OS starts asking network questions in Times Square-sized font, you remember why sysadmins carry aspirin. Who forgot to dismiss a notification, and why was the display left unattended? It has been reported that the poster sat near the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park entrance, a nice reminder that both the park and certain Windows UI choices date back to 2012. Nostalgia, but the kind you don't want on a billboard.

A small oversight, a big laugh

This is more public embarrassment than catastrophe — an amusing snapshot of how mundane configuration prompts can go theatrical when scaled up. Could it cause a security issue? Possibly, though no exploit has been reported; for now it's mostly a lesson in ops hygiene: lock your screens, mute notifications, and maybe don't run displays like they're a desktop you ignore. Bork, indeed.
